This is the upgraded v2 version on Pi camera. It uses a high quality 8 megapixel Sony IMX219 image sensor. The camera can capture 3280 x 2464 pixel static images and also supports 1080p30, 720p60 and 640x480p60/90 video.

This is the official camera module for your Raspberry Pi. The small yet high quality camera module is able to record full HD videos and still images. It comes with a flexible flat cable which is to be plugged directly to the Camera Serial Interface (CSI) connector right behind the ethernet port on the RPi. The CSI connector is a camera-specific high speed serial interface linked directly to the CPU. It is capable of much higher data transfer rate compared with USB camera.
This camera is supported in the latest version of Raspbian, the preferred OS for Raspberry Pi. There are three applications provided to capture both still images and videos.
