Tinker Board S is a new version of ASUS Tinker Board Single Board Computer. These are the improvements compared to the older model:
16GB eMMC on-board storage - The eMMC runs at a much higher speed compared to the regular micro SD card. The micro SD card slot is still present. You can use it as usual or use both eMMC and micro SD card.
Header pin for power-up/shutdown - You can connect a momentary switch to the power header so that you can trigger boot up or shutdown from it.
Low voltage detection - Low voltage icon will show up to alert that you have a power issue.
HDMI CEC ready - This allows you to use your existing TV remote to control the Tinker Board.
Audio jack plug-in detection - This allows application to automatically change the sound output when you plug in a headphone or speaker to the 3.5mm audio jack.
Software
The Tinker Board S can run different type of Operating System making it one of the most versatile board in the market. To install OS to the on-board eMMC, you need to connect the board to a computer using a micro USB cable (not included).
ASUS offers two OSes: a Debian/Linux and Android 6.01 Marshmallow based TinkerOS. Download link here.
Community support for this board has also been encouraging with many TinkerBoard-release for community-driven OS.
