Witty Pi is an add-on board for Raspberry Pi with a Real Time Clock (RTC) and power management capabilities.
The "HAT-sized" board plugs directly on top of a Raspberry Pi and can be secured using the included screws and standoffs. An extended GPIO header was put on top so that you can use GPIO for other purpose. There is a micro USB port for power connection. This will power both the board and the Raspberry Pi. Alternatively, there is a 2-pin header for you to connect 5V power. This is handy for battery connection.
Once you plug in the power, you can see the LED indicator glowing steadily. There is a power switch on board. Press the switch and it will boot your Raspberry Pi. If you do a proper shutdown by typing sudo shutdown -h, Witty Pi will cut the power to your Pi after the shutdown sequence is completed. With the software scripts installed, you can have a proper shutdown by just a tap to the switch. This physical power switch is a great feature especially when you run your Pi "headless" without any connnection to a monitor, mouse and keyboard.
With the Real Time Clock (RTC) chip and a backup battery on-board, you can keep the time on the Raspberry Pi accurate even when it is not powered. The RTC also gives you scheduling capability to start-up or shutdown your Pi automatically.
Witty Pi can work with Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, Pi 2 Model B, Model B+ and Model A+.
