This bright and colourful ring is a lovely addition to your project!
8 individually addressable 5050 WS2812B RGB LEDs are placed in-line on a PCB stick. WS2812B LED is a quite popular type of LED and you can find libraries for it quite easily. Being addressable, you can program each individual LED ON or OFF with any of the Red, Green or Blue (RGB) colour variation or even mixing colours between them producing 16777216 full colour display. At the back, there are solder pads for you to make connection. This board is to be powered by 4-7 V DC and can be controlled by a microcontroller such as Arduino boards. Only one digital output pin is required from the microcontroller to control this LED disc.
You can chain multiple stick together so that only one power source and one control pin from a microcontroller is needed. To do that, just connect the data output pin (DOUT) of one stick to data input pin (DIN) of the other stick. You can chain as many sticks as you like. Each LED needs around 18mA constant current, so make sure your power supply can support this.
