The Raspberry Pi 5 has an on-board Real Time Clock (RTC) hardware. It keeps track of the current time and date independent of the main processor. With the RTC, you can also put the Pi to a low-power sleep mode and set an alarm to wake it up. The RTC module can be powered by an external power source.
This is a CR2032 rechargeable battery that powers the RTC. It comes with a casing and cable to connect to the RTC battery connector on-board, labelled as J5 (BAT).
This battery can keep the RTC running for a very long time. The trickle charging is disabled by default on Raspberry Pi OS. Some configuration is be required to enable the battery charging.
