A shunt connects or shorts 2 pins together. It is commonly used on a PCB, slipped over a group of pins to activate certain 'configurations' accordingly.

This is a pack of jumper shunts that you can use to connect a pair of pin with 2.54mm separation. Additionally, part of the metal conductor is purposely exposed so you can use it as a test point with a multimeter.
