5V is one of the most widely used supply voltage in electronics. It is the standard voltage for all USB powered devices. Hardwares such as the Raspberry Pi, Arduino and Beaglebone Black are also powered by 5V supply. There are many LED drivers that needs 5V as well.
This is a boost converter which gives you fixed 5V DC output when 2V-4.5V is connected to the input terminals. The output connector is a type A female USB socket, making it very useful for USB powered devices.
Because of the compact size, you can use this boost converter to make a portable power source. Connect 2 or 3 AA or even 3.7V li-po battery to the input terminals to power a Raspberry Pi or a BeagleBone Black using the appropriate USB cable. You could also use this converter as an emergency mobile charger.
It doesn't have reverse polarity protection, so make sure the input terminals are connected correctly to avoid any damage to the converter.
