A heatsink is commonly added to electronic system for passive cooling; to help dissipate heat to the surrounding. Because of this effect, it will bring down the temperature and help extend the life of your hardware.
This heatsink kit is specifically put together for Raspberry Pi 3 and older models. The kit consists of two ceramic heatsinks with adhesive backing that you can apply directly to the two major heat sources - the Broadcom SoC and the USB/Ethernet chip. In addition to that, we throw in a thermally conductive copper sheet that you can stick on the memory chip on the back of the board.
Ceramic heatsink has a few advantages compared to aluminium or copper heatsink
While there are still a lot of debates out there whether heatsinks are necessary for the Raspberry Pi, we think that at least they make your Pi looks nicer.
